Scottish Heritage Meets English Elegance: A Romantic Wedding at St Giles House, Dorset
I believe the most unforgettable weddings are those that tell a story - not only of love, but of heritage, family, and the moments that shape a couple’s journey together. This beautiful celebration was a perfect reflection of that philosophy, blending timeless elegance with proud Scottish tradition in the most heartfelt way.
From the very beginning of the planning process, Natalie and Duncan envisioned a day that honoured their roots while creating a refined and contemporary experience for their guests. Every detail was thoughtfully curated to ensure their personalities and heritage were woven seamlessly throughout the celebration.
The Perfect English Setting
Set within the rolling countryside of Dorset, St Giles House is a venue steeped in history, elegance, and quiet grandeur. This magnificent Grade I–listed estate, with origins dating back to the 17th century, offers an atmosphere that feels both stately and deeply romantic. Surrounded by parkland and ancient trees, the house blends architectural beauty with an intimate sense of heritage, creating a setting where celebrations feel timeless rather than staged. Its refined interiors, sweeping grounds, and sense of lived history make it an extraordinary backdrop for weddings, allowing couples to host a celebration that feels both luxurious and profoundly personal; a place where tradition and modern love meet effortlessly.
Honouring Scottish Heritage with Traditional Pipers
A defining moment of the day came with the sound of traditional Scottish pipers as a true welcoming of guests on arrival at the chapel. The sound of the pipes echoed through the historic interiors, instantly creating a sense of ceremony and pride.
A Historic Church Transformed with Romantic Florals
Natalie and Duncan said their vows in the magnificent on-site Chapel. The ceremony space offered soaring architecture, intricate woodwork, and centuries of character, making for the perfect backdrop for a deeply meaningful exchange of vows.
To soften the grandeur while enhancing its natural beauty, I worked closely with the floral team to create abundant garden-inspired installations. Delicate ivory and blush roses, seasonal blooms, and flowing greenery framed the aisle and altar, appearing almost as though they had grown naturally within the space.
The floral design balanced elegance with organic movement, allowing guests to feel surrounded by nature while respecting the heritage of the venue. Layers of texture and gentle colour created a romantic atmosphere that felt both luxurious and intimate.
Elegant Design Meets Personal Storytelling
The overall aesthetic in The Library embraced understated luxury - refined tablescapes, soft romantic tones, and carefully layered textures that balanced sophistication with warmth.
We opted for soft peach garden roses and airy ivory blooms intermixed with delicate blush tones. Florals adorned the front of the top table and beautiful arrangements were placed on the mantelpieces, perfectly framing Natalie and Duncan.
The glassware was just as intentional. Rich emerald green water glasses added a subtle boldness to the palette and the deep tone enhanced the softness of the surrounding florals.
Every design decision was made in close collaboration with the couple, ensuring their vision remained at the heart of the experience.
A Joyful Wedding Breakfast & A Memorable Toast
The sound of the piper once again filled the room, drawing guests together in anticipation as Natalie and Duncan followed the piper into the beautiful Library for the wedding breakfast. Standing proudly before family and friends, the newlyweds were presented with the quaich, the traditional Scottish loving cup, symbolising trust, unity, and shared life. As the piper offered a ceremonial toast, honouring love, loyalty, and the joining of two families, the couple raised the quaich together, drinking in turn as a gesture of mutual respect and partnership.
The moment felt both ancient and deeply personal: music echoing through the space, glasses lifted in response, and guests witnessing a ritual that connects generations past with the beginning of a new chapter. It was a beautifully symbolic pause in the day; one filled with heritage, emotion, and celebration.
These are the moments I cherish most as a planner: when carefully planned details create space for genuine emotion.
Planning with Heart
This wedding was a beautiful reminder that luxury lies not only in aesthetics, but in intention; in honouring traditions, celebrating connection, and creating moments that will be remembered for generations.
Working alongside Natalie and Duncan was a true privilege. From our earliest conversations, we focused on creating a celebration that felt deeply personal; blending heritage, elegance, and joy into a fun three-days of celebrations.
